Low Data Transferring Speeds (0 kbps) on HP Pavilion running Windows 8

Hi,
I recently bought an 'HP Pavilion 15-p210tx Notebook (5th Gen Ci5/ 8GB/ 1TB/ Win8.1/ 2GB Graph)'.
The reading/writing speeds via the usb 3.0 ports during the first month were respectable.
But suddenly some 10 days back ALL the data transferring speeds to and from the laptop went down. The speeds repeatedly go down to 0 kbps and avg around 1 mbps. The whole system seems to have slowed down, i.e deleting takes time, when the system shuts down the power button doesn't turns off, videos consistently stuck during playback, updating takes forever.
Although, when I transfer data from one 3.0 external HDD to another, the data transfers perfectly (AVG 90 mbps), and once the videos are transferred to the external HDD (from the laptop) they play fluently.
I have no clue what else to do, a quick search led me to some similar problems with windows 8, where people complained about transferring speeds going down to 0kbps repeatedly, but nobody had a solution.
I have checked the flash drives & HDD on my MacBook and they work just fine.

Any Help would be appreciated.

Hi there MeMynonsense,

It seems that there is something wrong with your notebook's HDD. You need to test it and back up the data stored on it if this is the case. Check this out: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
I guess it will not hurt to test your external drive as well.
Also, you can try transferring one big file not several small ones.
