So I did something dumb. When I got a new laptop I noticed it wasnt activated, so I went to check some things. I called the store at which we bought the laptop and they said there is a button to activate windows 8. So I did something stupid, I installed a cracked key and now my windows is a windows 8 Pro RTM version. And now I cannot update to Windows 8.1 from the store.

Is there any way for me to deactivate this and go back to the first non activated windows?
Or do I have to do a factory reset? Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If there is a product key for Windows 8 at the bottom of the laptop? If there is you can open control panel > system and there press change product key button and type in there the one on the sticker on the laptop. Windows 8 computers might not come with the product key on the sticker though so you might need to resort to the factory reset you mentioned.

I thought that would be the case, but the thing is. When I got the laptop it was just Windows 8 not Pro so a Factory reset is mandatory. The reason I wanted to restore it is because I could install Windows 8.1 and then 10. And the code is indeed not on the back, it's in the BIOS and I know what the key is. But I can't change it I think.
Thanks anyway. :)
