My toshiba laptop hard drive crashed. I am looking to just replace but don't have a clue when it comes to all the different types. Would any 2.5 inch Sata hd work? Should I just get a ssd? I'm looking to spend 100$ on a 500gb to 1 tab drive.

Model: PSAR3C-02E008 - Satellite A500 - 02E (Precious Black with Sonic Boom Top Cover - NVIDIA GeForce G210M graphics)

Solution
Most 2.5" drives will work. The only consideration is thickness. 7mm or 9.5mm. Some ultrabooks (thin) require a 7mm. Your Toshiba is probably not one of them.

500-1TB? Not an SSD at that price level. So, any 500-1TB 2.5" drive will work.
HD will be more of a direct replacement. SSD, you have to buy a caddy, but either one will work. Since there are currently no $100 500G SSD you can buy, that's out, did u even look? 2.5" HD you have to pay attention on the drive's thickness, am talking about will it physically fit, laptops tend be fit tight, so whatever you get, it has to fit into the hole, first and foremost, look up the manual or break out the ruler.

Thnx for the replies. Much appreciated. I seem to see ssd 500gb for around 100 but that may just be the wording. Many technical words that may state otherwise. I don't know if I can post links so I won't. Thanks for all the help. Found - 1 Tb toshiba hd that should work.
