I want to build a gaming PC and I noticed that the micro ATX motherboards are a lot cheaper than the ATX motherboards. Is that because they offer less performance?

Expansion slots are the slots that expansion cards plug into.

Video cards are one of these devices.

For some users the expansion slots on ATX boards are required(SLI + sound card + wireless, ect).

So if you do not need the expansion slots that is not going to be a down side for you.

Just make sure the board supports the cpu you want to use and have a beefy enough power system if you plan to overclock.

For instance, this is my board. I did not need the extra expansion because I just have 1 video card and 1 sound card.

They offer less expansion(less slots, but fit in smaller cases) and some may not have as strong of a voltage regulation system.

This does not mean you can not get matx boards with all the goods, but some matx boards cater to budget builds so you have to check out reviews and specs.

This does not mean they do not have budget ATX boards with weaker voltage regulators(not an issue if you are not overclocking).

You kind of get what you pay for(but do not have to go overboard).

What does less slots mean? I'm new to computers but I think the GPU connects to the motherboard, and I don't plan on using SLI so is having less slots still a problem?
