Can someone please explain what are the pros and cons of both? Is one better than the other? Why and when would one prefer the other? Which is more practical?

Thanks

Solution
The only concern I have is, if the HD is going to be inserted and removed constantly, I would prefer a tray with its own heavy duty matting connector and not rely on the HD's own Sata connector.

But if fairly static, I personally would prefer a tray-less, simpler, as long as there is a proper lever to remove the drive without any tools.
