what is the best controller to use for pc games online and stuff?

Solution

You need a wireless receiver that connects to your computer via USB. I bought mine off eBay. I just recently bought another one for my brother seen here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OFFICIAL-MICROSOFT-XBOX-360-WIRELESS-RECEIVER-USB-for-PC-GAMING-CONTROLLER-/171102976603?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27d6883a5b

Just search "wireless xbox 360 receiver"

And yes, the XBONE controller is better, but the 360 version works just fine and is a lot...

I have two wireless ones, but don't i need something external like a receiver or something, or no?

So the Xbox One controller works better than 360? why? Would you recommend the xbox one over the 360 or just get the cheaper one?

How do i go about using the wireless controller? I have two of them , would be cool to get them to work but i have no USB port for it you know?

Basically just want to know if i need anything besides the controller to make a wireless xbox 360 controller work on the pc.. ?

basically you will need a receiver for the wireless signal ... try game.com (just under a tenner) I got a wired controller for a tenner off amazon.co.uk it works spot on.

The 360 controllers are the de-facto gold standard when it comes to gampads on windows, because it's not just "a gamepad", but actually recognized as "an xbox controller".
Most computer games actually map in "press [XBOX A button picture]" in stead of "press [ENTER]" - when they say they support "controllers" they more or less assume that it's a 360 pad.

Also, cable length is great, and the wireless ones work as good, are a bit heavier due to the batteries though.
For wireless you can either have Batterypack/USB Charge &PlayCable set, or you can buy a battery pack that simply takes 2 AA batteries (do that!).

Xbox 360 vs ONE I could't say, that's personal hand-preference, but I have to say that as little as I ordinarily like microsoft they have virtually never made bad hardware, and the 360 controllers at least Do Not Break^^

What reason besides the price difference?

Easy on the triple posting there.

And to answer your question, its for the same reason wireless anything was invented in the first place. Your xbox/ps is only a cable's length away as well, yet people love wireless versions because there is less clutter (or looks cleaner), you don't have to worry about a cable breaking/getting tangled, etc. Same goes for mice and keyboards.

In the end, the main reason someone will chose wired over wireless is the cost savings.
