I've just assembled a computer with the ASRock Z97 mother board and an intel i7-4790k processor. I also have a samsung sm951 solid state M.2 drive and 8gb of ram installed.
When i powered on the machine for the first time, a white screen with colored stripes showed up and I was not able to install an OS. The next day, I tried booting again, and this time it booted normally and I was able to get to the bios. I updated the bios to the latest version, and then proceeded to install windows.
Occasionally while installing and rebooting, the white screen would come back. I tried resetting the computer many times, and eventually it would boot normally. Once windows was successfully installed, I was able to login and install some things, but then the screen turned white and I haven't been able to recover it since. I can hear the login chime if I wait a bit and enter my password, but the white screen is ever present.
I suspect the motherboard is at fault in this situation, but I don't know how to verify that.
