Hello!

I am planning on doing an overclock and I want to make sure it's safe and ask people who actually know what they are doing for advice.

The card I have is the ASUS R7 260X OC, running at 1075/1250.
https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/R7260XOC2GD5/
I have compared it to the reference card and that one runs at 1100/1625.

My goal would be to get to either 1100/1625 or 1125/1650 at most. But before I do anything I have a few questions.

1. The card is normally underclocked compared to the reference model, does that mean that it's built so that it's limited to lower clocks? Is the quality of the materials lower or is anything "cut" so that it limits the performance, or is it just the clocks? The ASUS site says it uses quality materials, but I want to be sure.

2. Will the cooling keep the temperatures stable? I see the reference card running at higher clock with apparently worse cooling (one fan). I know this is not the DirectCU2 cooler, but it still looks better and of a higher quality than the reference.

3.What software do you recommend? I was thinking of using the ASUS GPU Tweak, I have not used it yet but I did play around with its interface.

4.Do you have any idea is the warranty will be voided if I overclock it? I talked to a friend who bought another card from the same store and he told me that the warranty will be voided only if the card breaks due to the OC. i have registered it on the ASUS site and the store I got it from gave me a 3 year warranty.

Thank you for you time!

On GPU Core you easily achive 1125 even more about rams they are probably Elpida 1400/1500 can be theirs limit
1. Asus in overall make good quality goods, but this GPU is lower end edition , and I do not see this edition review.
2. Yes for GPU core on rams you need install heatsinks
3.AMD CCC
4. Until you not temper with bios, they will not prove you anything :]

Thanks for answering!

This is my GPU, found it on Newegg also if it helps: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121898#top

To quote it: "Acclaimed DIGI+ VRM has been applied via a 5-phase power design that uses digital voltage regulators to minimize power noise by 30%, enhance power efficiency by 15%, widen voltage modulation tolerance, and improve overall stability and longevity by 2.5 times over the reference. " It does say though that it's better built than the reference, so that may be good. Also the DirectCU2 model uses a 6-phase power design, mine uses 5-phase.

My overclock plans are to go just a little bit over the reference, or probably stop just at that, 1100/1625, do you think that memory clock is doable?
About what you said regarding the GPU core on the RAMs, is this cooler not enough for 1625MHz? It does not have those copper heat pipes, but compared to the reference it does have bigger coolers, and 2 compared to the 1 on the reference.

I will not temper with the BIOS, it's good to know though, thanks!

I checked the CCC Overdrive, and the most it would let me go with the memory clock is 1600MHz, is that for safety?

On my Sapphire I achieved 1177 for core on rams I have 1500 when I add heat-sinks on rams I can bump to 1640.
My gpu with removed heat-sink
R7_260_X.jpg

+ added heatsinks on ram I dot them from old AMD CPU cooler * I use saw for metal ;)
I covered rams, ram VRM, and increase main VRM section heat-sink size :)

To mount them I use http://www.alphacool.com/product_info.php/info/p113_thermal-adhesive-pad-40x40mm.html
And I used Isopropyl alcohol 97% to clean surface before use adhesive pads if you do not do this they can not hold it in place.
And My GPU at work :)

I have a question though, the AMD CCC would only let me change the memory clocks until 1600, i can't change the core clocks. I presume that is the limit?

If I add heatsinks like you will it let me go further?

Sleek cooler you have I might say!

I see, thanks you for all the help. I was thinking of 1120/1600, what's your opinion? Also, do you have any recommandations for a temperature monitor software?

Both MSI Afterburner and ASUS GPU Tweak let me go as high up as 1200/1600, I don't want to push it that much. Are these values calculated safely? What I mean to say is that are they the max I can go to before it's too much?

Your GPU have better VRM section maybe you can achieve near to 1200 on GPU core if temps will bo not to high * below 85C ok is I personally keep my GPU below 70C.
About ram I cannot info about used rams safe range will be around 1500Mhz if you encounter unsuitability freezes you turn OC down.
First OC GPU CORE * to control temps I USE GPU-Z.
When you reach stable * testes by some games * I find that DX9 game like World Thunder not like to much OC even if my GPU passed Valley benchmarks.
Start OC rams and test it :)

I see, so the software automatically gives me the recommended limit right?

I did not bump it to 1200 yet, I do not plan to either, something lower would be good as well. 1200 is the limit at which it will let me go to. I will check the temperatures when I decide to do the overclocking.

As for the RAM I will stick to what you got as well, 1500 for now. Maybe 1600, but I am not sure.

And War Thunder is DX9? It looks too good to be using DX9 still xD

I have another question, While I am browsing the internet the memory clock seems to be jumping up and down, is that normal? It goes from low to max quite frequently, and I am not even in a game. The GPU clock seems to be stable, only the memory clock jumps. No OC.

Maybe Dx 10 or even 11 I do not care ;)
But point is that this game test OC very well :)
Memory and GPU clocks are jumping this is normal :)
You cannot bump right away to 1200/ 1600
Increase GPU Core each time +50mhz run some games stable go more when you hit unstable in 5 min game running this is limit and go with OC down and now go only + 25mhz to and check.
Do this same with memory * memory
Any Flickering image, colour dots on screen ect is info for that you push to much.

Thank you for all the help!

I will try bumping it up little by little and see what I get. 1200/1600 seems to be the limit, I did not bump it that high right away.

Here is what I was telling you about the core and memory fluctuations:

This is running at default, 1075/1250.

No problem right?

Thank you again for all the help!
