OK so i am looking to cut the cord from cable and i am planning on using roku devices on 5 TVs. I fear that my routers may not be able to handle all of the new additional HD video streaming.
I also may just need to configure it better.

What is currently connected:

1 desktop running ubuntu (this one is the master computer)
3 windows labtops
3 smart phones
1 printer
xbox
ps3
smart watch(sometimes connected)
another device ( i am forgetting it)

i also tend to have friends that come over so add about 5-7 additional laptops and phones

I plan on adding 5 roku devices to the house

What i have:

ASUS RT-N66R with a Linkseys E1000 connected to it as a second access point (in hope to help with the router bogging down when friends come over, not sure if that really helps or not, also did just to learn a little bit about wireless networks) and a direct wireless link to the PS3 since connection is week there. Useing Armstrong in North East ohio as my ISP

So i would imagine i need to set priority to certain devices (never done it before so will need guidance)

Looking for recommendations on the best way to configure my network utilizing the two routers. My house has two floors including a basement. I dont get get good signal at all in the basement. So i do need to boost my signal would moving the E1000 to a new location with the current configuration work? and just have the devices downstairs connect to that router?

What i was thinking of doing:

My plan was to use 3 routers; 1 main and 2 access points each access point in two positions through out the house. basement and 2nd floor.

So recap i need a suggestion on best configuration using the two routers, the direct wireless link and i can buy an additional router or other supplies if needed.

The more devices you have connected via ethernet cable the happier you will be. After that, move all possible devices to 5Ghz.

Consider using true access point hardware rather than repurposed routers. Look at the UniFi hardware from Ubiquiti. Maybe don't even use the WIFI on the Asus. If it is the primary router, let it be just a router.

thanks for the reply but using Ethernet cable will be a no go due to the lay out of the home. I can really only use it for two maybe (maybe!) 3. and i will look into actual access points mine really isn't doing anything since its sitting 12in away from the primary router lol
