Hey team,

I am looking into upgrading my system....I have about $3500 to $4000 to spend on a new system. Not sure if I should uprade or build new Gaming PC! I primarily use this for mostly GAMING, internet browsing, watch movies, etc....

My current rig....

INTEL i7 4770k 3.5 (noob at overclocking so it's stock)
GEFORCE GTX 780ti SC W/ ACX COOLER
ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO MOBO
CORSAIR VENGEANCE 16 GB DDR3 1866MHZ--MEMORY
Samsung SSD 840 evo 250gb
Samsung SSD 850 evo 250gb
Corsair 850TX power supply-
Cooler master HAF 932 tower
Benq XL2410T monitor 120hz

Here are my thoughts...

**CPU** I no that new cpu's from intel are coming out next month (skylake..etc) but is it worth it? Will they be enough gain to warrant not buying the top off the line gaming cpu out now (i7 4960x or 5930k or 5820K)?

**GPU** I was thinking of updating my GPU to SLI with 2-980TI's Zotac 6tb w/ACX cooler superclocked+plus Part # ZT-90505-10p (fastest 980ti out right now).

**MEMORY** should i get Ram with a faster speed

**MONITOR** Get a AcerXB270HU 27"/IPS/144hz/Gsync.

I would really appreciate any advice.......Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help

First off your system is still really good. I would over clock that CPU to something like 4.2ghertz which should be pretty easy to do, but you will have to get an after market cooler. Everything else is very current and solid. Most gaming is done off the gpu, but some games do require heavy CPU. Your CPU has more then enough power for any current games and for quite awhile. Ram makes up about 2% of a system's over all speed and your ram is perfectly fine and you have plenty of it. If you really want to upgrade something, I would upgrade to a SLI of your current GPU or if you have more money get a SLI of GTX 980 TIs and that new screen you want 1440p 144hz. BTW that CPU is plenty and don't bother upgrading till it actually matters to your performance.

I would get the G-sync monitor and 980ti for sure. Once you get the G-sync monitor, you won't need the extreme frame rates to reduce noticeable tearing because tearing will be gone. The 980ti will give you high minimum frame rates which are more important when dealing with a G-sync monitor (try to keep them in the high 20s+ for a given title). Get that Acer XB270HU monitor and the 980ti.

They will give you all you need to improve your system. Otherwise, your CPU is still close to the top of the list. You won't see any noticeable improvement gaming with one of the other processors.

But if I had $4-5 grand to upgrade a system, I had his current system, and I wanted noticeable improvement, I would get the GTX 980 TI SLI and that new monitor and eventually when 4k is straightened out I would get a 4k 60hertz screen.

Get a cool custom theme going with lights plus sound system? Get that computer desk that is a computer case also? So epic! :D

LOLz my friend wanted to do that and even I had dreams of building a custom case, permanently soldering a GPU at a right angle to the mobo (I would custom build myself an adapter) and make the smallest freak'n power house alive in a tiny tiny case! LOL crazy ideas. Another thing he can do is invest in a super big AMOLED screen. That is a million times better then IPS, but also costs the lives of your children. :D

Hi all,

Thank you very much for all your suggestions. After further thought I went with the AcerXB270HU 27"/IPS/144hz/Gsync---love the monitor. I also went SLI with 2-Zotac Geforce 980 ti Amp! Extreme 6tb (# ZT-90505-10p....fastest out of the box 980ti available right now).

thank you
