Blurry text on Viewsonic NX2232w

When I connect my Acer Aspire laptop via HDMI to a Viewsonic NX2232w the text is blurry. There is no DVI input for this monitor and the laptop has no VGA cable

That seems to be a common complaint in the reviews of that screen on Newegg. The only solution offered in the reviews was to use a DVI-to-HDMI cable and manually set the computer resolution to 1680x1050, which happens to be the native resolution of the screen, and as such, the only resolution that should show a pixel accurate, non-blurry picture.
