So I was just sitting around browsing steam when all of the sudden my pc turns off. I don't really know what happened. I have a surge protector that I'm connected to btw. Also now whenever I put my PC to sleep it will shut down "unexpectedly" and I was wondering if my psu may now me damaged or what could be causing my PC to turn off. All and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your PSU will be fine. As long as you're sure the surge protector is working, then It's fine.
Probably during the storm, the power went out. To avoid damages to the power lines and all, the company probably shut it down to prevent further damage.
