How can I back up 9TB of data??

Hi guys! I built my computer almost a year ago and have experienced no problems. I use a 3TB Drive to store all my video projects, etc. I tore through that drive and am looking at buying a much-needed 6TB. I currently use an external 3TB hard drive to back up my documents. I personally find it very inconvenient to constantly unplug and plug-in the drive to copy over hundreds of gigabytes. It will also get much more expensive when I buy a 6TB, having to buy two drives (12TB total) for essentially 6TB of data.

Is there any way I can back up lots of data in a compact form, so I can buy a smaller drive (to save money) and restore it to a larger drive if the main hard drive were to crash? That way I don't have to buy another 6TB drive, unless I want to restore the backed up files. Does anyone know how this can be done? Any other ideas on backups and storage in general are very appreciated :)

Thank you so much!! It helps a LOT

windows storage spaces is pretty useful i had a load of old drives lying about

connected 6 of them to mess about with storage spaces

simply put its a software raid with redundancy but its actually much more flexible than that

you can at the start allot it much more space than the drives currently being used so in future can add more drives or take out say a 1tb and replace it with a 3tb

i connected 6 drives but can then sub divide those into as many as you want

it features mirroring across multiple drives to protect against drive failure

all in all its pretty versatile and didnt need to buy a nas or raid card either

Depending upon what you're using, that 6TB of video projects may contain a lot of scratch files (pre-renders etc.). Those things don't need to be backed up. That could save you a bunch of space.

Other than that, depending upon what format your source files are in, you can try compressing them to save space. If they're already in a compressed format then you're SOL.

Data backup can be expensive huh... :)
