Best Graphics Card to run Crossfire with to run 4K/Dual 1080p Monitors?

I currently have an R9 280 (not the X) and it's doing fanastic right now for the sale I got it at on $150 new. (Yes it was Newegg.) Anyways I already prepared for Crossfire by getting a compatible motherboard and a 1000 watt PSU to run pretty much any other AMD card in there for Crossfire. However, I'm not sure which card to get, seeing as how the entire purpose of this, is to be able to have another monitor or a 4K one.

Another thing, if I crossfire my 3GB R9 280 with say an R9 390x, will my 280 be holding it back? Will it "bottleneck" the stronger card, thus now allowing the full Vram usage of it, and I won't be able to use a 4K monitor of another 1080p?

I'm a bit confused on how Crossfire actually WORKS, and if getting a second card will do much in the way of 4K and such. So what other card should I get? If another one at all?

Thanks.

You can't crossfire an R9 280 and an R9 390X, they are different GPU Architectures. I would say that you could crossfire it with either another r9 280 (which might be the best solution especially since they are quite cheap) and you might look at the R9 380. I'd personally recommend you just get another r9 280, keep it simple.
