PS/2 vs. USB Keyboard / Mouse interface?

Hi everyone-

Quick questions. I am setting up myself to hopefully build my own desktop PC soon (funds permitting ... it's never easy!) and while I have tried to do two things: Get the best system I can possibly get, while simultaneously getting the most value possible. I have tried to make sure I get the best part per price and especially QPR- Quality to Price Ratio - and I have some nice stuff picked out- HOWEVER, I have some questions about the lowly Keyboard and Mouse! LOL.

I have Google'd up the fact that I want to use PS/2 rather than USB interface for a bunch of reasons- especially the fact that the BIOS would accept the PS/2 interfaces much easier than USB, or much less problematic, so if I had a problem now or down the road I'd be better off with PS/2 connections?

What I am also wondering is this- Can I use a PS/2 interfaced keyboard with a USB-connected mouse? The reason I ask is because there are waaaaaaay more mice available with USB connections than PS/2. I found a nice keyboard for a great cheap price with a PS/2 connection but the Mice seem to be much better rated, and cheaper, with USB ratings. I m wondering if I can mix the two? And lastly for the record I checked the motherboard specs, it does say it has 1 PS/2 keyboard/mouse port so I am sure I can connect that way.

Thanks all for the help!
