Hi guys, noob pc builder here. First build actually..

I bought an Asus M5A7LM and connected it up to my AMD FX 8320 black edition cpu and got through to the bios, although I hear I will have to flash it to make it compatible. Is it worth sending back the M5A7L and buying a ASrock 970M?

I know the chipset on the Asus mobo is older, which I assume would affect the performance of the CPU? (Apparantly the recommended chipset is a 9 series?)

Theres only about £10 difference between them both and im pretty sure amazon would accept my refund for the Asus mobo as the packaging wasn't sealed anyway!

I have essentially no knowledge of the matter so would be very grateful for any help.

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply! Does the motherboard directly effect performance or is it more my cpu/gpu/ram?

Sorry for having so little knowledge haha.

Also any info about flashing the bios would be appreciated!

For that board the BEST Bang for buck is the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3. It has a 8+4 Power Phase which is Needed for the AMD FX 8xxx Series! those boards ur looking at have 4+2 and will bottleneck your CPU

It wont "BottleNeck" per say but it will Throttle the CPU. Its a mistake iv made myself before. Need to make sure a motherboard you are looking at has an 8+2 or 8+4 power phase or it will Throttle your CPU. CPU throttling it when the Mobo Decreases the voltage and clock speed of your pc due for that lack of power it can support and the VRMs overheating.

It can yes, if incorrectly set up, OCed to high, weak PSU or using overly high voltages, in general No it won't throttle an 8350 or even a 8370.
