OK as you likely gathered from the title of this thread im a noob, and for a long time i have wanted to build a PC but i always ended up getting overwhelmed by it and usually ended up confused with my simple mind being fried because of the massive amount of options.

also i feel i should mention the purpose of the build, i want it to play games, i would like to be able to play most new games at 60 frames and above with very high to ultra settings, and also i was thinking of the budget being in the range of £700 - £1200
also recently i decided i am going to be patient with the build and buy most of the costly parts during black friday in an attempt to try save some money (also depending on prices during black friday i may change the gpu to a 980)

earlier today i started trying to compile a list of parts and all the things i want, here it is as follows at the end of this thread i will put a link to my amazon wishlist so you can view all the parts on their amazon pages so you can look and see what you think (it is the UK amazon because i am from the UK)

The Processor (CPU)
for the processor i am looking at an Intel Core i7 i7-4790K CPU as it seems to perform extremely well and it looks like the best option to me, and would likely suit my needs best as the system will be used for gaming, video editing, and possibly 3d modeling software and photoshop

The Motherboard
for the motherboard i am looking at the Asus H97-PLUS Intel Motherboard (H97 Plus, ATX, SATA Express, Socket 1150) as it has good reviews and i believe it has all the ports i need and it is considered a reliable motherboard based on some research of it edit: i am currently unsure of what motherboard to go with as i am new to this and am mostly clueless and i am aiming to spend somewhere between £50 and £100

RAM
for the ram i am looking at the HyperX Savage 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) i am now going with this as it was suggested by prrathamesh and it looked much better than the ram i had previously selected,

Graphics Card
for the graphics card i believe i have found a good one, i found the PNY Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 Graphics Card 1178 MHz 4 GB PCI-Express i think it is a good price and based on some brief research its performance is quite good for the price and is considered reliable

Hard Drives
i have been looking at 2 hard drives a solid state drive for the os and a mechanical hard drive for the space/storage these were a Seagate Barracuda 3.5 inch 2TB mechanical SATA Drive as i have used seagate external hard drives in the past and from my experience they seem to be quite good, as for the ssd i went with the Samsung 2.5-Inch 250 GB 850 EVO Solid State Drive as is it runs better (Faster read and write speeds than my previous choice)

Drive ( i looked at optical and blu-ray but decided optical suits my needs just fine)
so i went with a Samsung 24x Retail SATA DVD Writer

the OS
for the OS i am constantly looking at windows 7 because of its driver suport but this will be one of the last things i will purchase and i will likley go to windows 10 shortly afterwards

the power supply i have decided to go with is the Corsair CX750 Builder Series CX 750W ATX/EPS 80 PLUS Bronze PSU as i believe it should power everything and i went with this as one thing i hear alot is you shouldn't skimp on this as it is one of the most important parts

there are some parts i haven't really found as i have no clue what to go with and that is the Case and cooling

I originally wanted liquid cooling but am unsure of which to go with, (i know some people who hopefully will help me set up the liquid cooling if i do decide to go with liquid cooling)

and finally here is a link to my amazon wishlist http://www.amazon.co.uk/registry/wishlist/28UEBBT6SYRJ1

i apologize if i am not presenting this very clearly, or am not making it easy to understand me, thanks in advance for any help finding a case and cooling (cooling needs to be under £50) and thanks for any advice about the parts i have selected or advice about better parts

i will likely be checking here a few times a day so i shouldn't take long to reply to any questions or such

Hello !
1 CPU. Unless you are into Video trans coding or any such task i7 is overkill. i would suggest stick to i5 ans save the money for GPU. You can opt for 5th gen CPU for optimized performance. DO consider Intel Xeon E3-1231v3 as potential CPU if your are interested in i7

2. Motherboard : its a good choice and optimized for AMD Quad GPU.

3. GPU : Not fan of AMD or NVIDIA but if your motherboard is optimised AMD multi GPU then why get NVIDIA card. its upto personal preference but i read smewhere that SLI has different requirements. not that i wont work on your mother board but i don't think QUAD SLI will work. Again not sure about it. needs to be verified.

4.RAM 16GB is sufficient for MOST of the games and applications...

5.SSD: Samsung makes one of the best SSD at affordable price. http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/ you can use this site while deciding your SSD

6. OS. I would suggest buying Windows 7 and then upgrading to Windows 10. as windows 7 has great driver support and u can upgrade to windows 10 .

im fairly happy with the motherboard and GPU but i will do some more research, and i do intend on increasing my ram in the future, also for the cpu the main reason i went with that is because of how well it handles multitasking, and i will more than likely end up using recording software and doing video editing and while videos render i will most likely end up putting the video rendering in the background while it runs and do other things, that's one of the main reasons i though the i7 would do well

as for the ssd, i will more than likely follow your advice, i will be looking at that site a fair bit before i make a purchase, and one of Samsungs cards have caught my eye the 850 evo 250gb it is slightly better than my card in some areas but also costs a little more so im torn between them right now (as in the Samsung and the crucial)

as for the os i will more than likely get windows 7 as it is cheaper and if i don't upgrade right away the driver support will be quite useful thank you for your reply the information is quite useful and i now have a good site for comparing ssds

i have changed the ram and motherboard to what you suggested, seems like better options to me, thank you,
