So I'm trying to install windows 8.1 from usb. It goes to 50 ish percent preparing files and stops. Then I have to restart and type in my windows activation again. So #1 how can I get windows on there and #2 I noticed the usable space going down... Will I be able to delete the crap that only went 50% once I get windows installed?

Solution
Is the SSD connected to the primary SATA header or one of the secondary headers? Secondary storage controllers are sometimes problematic. I'd check the motherboard manual, or look at the motherboard and make sure your SSD is connected to the SATA 0 or 1 header.

I'd also make sure you're using a USB 2.0 port rather than 3.0. Sometimes the system doesn't like using 3.0 headers prior to drivers being loaded into memory. I'd make sure that the bios settings reflect AHCI as the primary storage controller type.
There is probably an issue with a prior system boot partition. Use the following guide to do a CLEAN install. Be sure when you get to the point where is asks where you want to install windows, that you delete ALL of the existing partitions on that drive unless there are separate partitions with data you wish to keep in which case I'd back it up someplace else and then delete all the partitions.

When you get to that window, click advanced, delete the partitions on THAT drive only. In fact, it's a good idea to disconnect any other drives while installing. Then install to the unallocated space. Windows will automatically perform an formatting and create any necessary partitions.

if it a new ssd plug it into another pc make sure it firmware is up to date and then run the drive vendors secure erase then check the drive see if any of the memory cells are bad. also from another pc make sure the pc clean of virus and malware..download a new iso from microsoft and use there iso to usb tool and make with a new usb stick the windows boot disk. may have a bad usb stick or if it was from a cd a bad file.

Nope. Did that and all it did is get stuck at 5% I did however find out how to delete the crap off my drive. I suspect all I need to do is put windows on a different flash drive and boot and install it from there. Might be the flash drive or ISO

Tried a new usb. No luck. Unfortunately I don't have another computer to test my ssd. Do you think it's that that's not letting it install?
