Which one is better for budget gaming pc? Paired with a MSI R9 380 4GB. No fanboys please!
Made up my mind on the FX 6300.

please, next time put this one and the gpu thread in 1 thread, saves you and others some hassle.
i would say it depends, which games, are you overclocking, what is the budget, ect. ect.

yea, an haswell i5, thats the limit, broadwell desktop is focused on igpu, and skylake is a lga 1151
i would go for the 6300, more threads can come in useful, and what i would count as well is overclocking, not necessarily for the increase in performance, but also for the fact that overclocking is fun.

KNARF XD is right. Only way to answer is knowing what GPU you have or intend to buy and what is the most demanding game you're looking to play. By answering those two questions you pretty much identify the kind of budget you're on.

But what category would i put this into then? I made separate posts because of categorys.
Well the i3 doesn't overclock, the FX 6300 does. I have never overclocked before, and from what i've heard people recommend buying aftermarket heatsinks for oc'ing, so very unlikely. Games like GTA 5, BF4, Skyrim, Grid(1,2,AS), etc.

A MSI R9 380, i updated the post. I guess most demanding are BF4, GTA5, GRID(1,2,AS).

the newer games would be in favour of the 6300, but older ones like skyrim would run better on the i3, but because it is older, it has lower needs so the 6300 would be just fine there, but most newer AAA titles would be more multithreaded. and with windows 12 on coming next week with dx12 it would even favour the 6300 more.

Okay, so FX 6300 is better performance wise. But if we take upgrade path into this? i3 can be easily upgraded to i5 in the future. Can you provide a motherboard for the FX 6300?

Is it really worth getting that expensive motherboard? How would this Mobo work? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009FC3YJ8?keywords=Gigabyte%20GA-78LMT&qid=1437557213&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

it is unclear which revision you are getting on that motherboard.

this mobo is possible, but it limits the oc capability, and i would recommend a top flow cooler on that, those are a bit cheaper too, but cool a bit worse

Okay. But is the extra performance now worth the no upgrade path? If i go with this mobo and cpu, that means i have to upgrade my mobo to get a i5 later down the line (~1.5-2yrs)

by that time, you will likely get a new mobo with intel as well, because then i believe cannonlake or kabylake is on the market, and haswell is not in the stores anymore, only second hand, and at least i am not a big fan of second hand buying.

You are right! I totally forgot! I heard that Intel is coming out with new stuff like in a month or so. That means that upgrade path is dropable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skylake_%28microarchitecture%29 Wikipedia informs that there will be a new socket aswell! Well, there goes the Intel upgrade path for LGA 1150. I am strongly against second-hand aswell!
I am looking up some benchmarks. The FX 6300 seems superior.

http://www.newegg.com/global/uk/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128565. Would I go this route over the ASUS? Yes...but I'm very biased toward Gigabyte and MSI boards. If there's a specific chipset you want, fine. But if not I would recommend this board.

A lot depends on how much you want to spend NOW vs. what you want to do in the future. Although I would recommend an aftermarket cooler for the FX-6300 if you're going to use it long term, short term you can get by with the stock cooler.

I am re-using my HDDs, and since i don't plan on overclocking the cpu, i don't need a aftermarket cooler? I want a simple looking case (no 80's "how will stuff in future look" type of cases), with good airflow options (the more fans the better), and decent cable managment options, can you recommend something?

you don't need one, but i would recommend one, the stock cooler isn't really silent...
and case is really your job to pick one, everyone likes a different one, and you can always add fans :)

This^. At 95W it's on the warm side. Long term use...get a cooler.
You're looking for a balance in the fans, not more is better. Could actually lose cooling with 5 fans instead of the right combo of 3. And AMEN to the simple look to a computer case (biased answer of course).

By "the more fans the better" i meant, that there are atleast 2 fans included with the case. I really like how Fractal Design looks like, are they any good with cable managment and airflow? I found a review on YT about the Core 1500, it looks pretty good, has 2 fans, a bottom PSU with a dust filter below. I will probably try to DIY style install some rubber on the feets if the case will be slippery. And it costs only £39 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00KM4B13Y/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

There are a lot of tech experts who actually prefer Fractal Design, so yes....it's a good case. Cooling is one of its strong points and cable management is as good as any other reputable case manufacturer. We all have our likes and dislikes and for me it's SilverStone #1 and Fractal Design #2.
