Hi all
Could someone please help me. The graphics card on my PC just stopped working so am looking for a replacement. I mainly use my PC for a few low-intensive graphics games (eg Total War series / Civilization), web surfing and for work (using MS Excel and Word). I know my PC is quite old so there are 2 options.
1) Replace my Graphics card (and monitor). If I’m only changing the graphics card, would it be compatible with my motherboard? Any other suggestions for the graphics card or the monitor?

2) Completely upgrade my PC. For this option, I know that it is a massive overkill for my requirements but it’s unlikely that I’d upgrade again for 5-10 years. Also, this was the fastest setup I could find in my budget (£1,500)

I will be upgrading / building the PC myself, if this makes any difference.

Current setup (mostly given to me free by someone 4-5 years ago):
Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe v2
CPU: i7 – 920
Memory: 6GB ram
GPU: Geforce GTX 260
Case: Coolermaster Silencio RC-550
PSU: Coolermaster GX 650W

Option 1 – new graphics card and monitor only
GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 970 Strix
Monitor: Asus PB278QR

Option 2 – New PC build
Motherboard: Asus X99-A/USB 3.1
CPU: i7-5820K
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB
GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 970 Strix
Case: Fractal Design Define R5
PSU: Corsair RM650 80+ Gold
Monitor: Asus PB278QR

Thanks in advance

Solution
Just upgrade GPU. if you have few bucks to spare get SSD if you haven't yet. that should provide major performance boost in loading time n boot time.

The full upgrade will indeed be overkill for an user like you.Actually it's something like Overkill++.But the full upgrade will more than likely be more reliable. But you can just upgrade your GPU.
GPU upgrade only- Greater performance
full system upgrade- Much performance, very reliability, much overkill.
