Hey guys i am living in India and will be shifting to USA after one year. I was hoping that i could take my computer with me. Since their is a difference of voltage in these two countries, i was wondering whether my computer which works on 220v will be able to work properly in USA where the voltage is 110v, if yes then will there be any problems? Please do let me know guys as i have spent a lot of money on this computer and it is a recent purchase.

Determine if your PSU is voltage selectable. There is typically a small red switch on the back of the PSU itself that lets you manually select the operating voltage. It could be one that auto detects the voltage. Check the documentation or the manufacturer's web site for that.

If it is 220V only, you'll need another PSU.

Hi

Hopefully the PSU rating plate for volts and either amps or watts should be visible on the outside of the case

Older ones had a sliding switch for 230/115 or 220/110 selection
Many modern ones are auto selection 100 to 250 or similar like most laptop power supply bricks

Most power supplies sold in the US are dual power and auto switching. If your power supply has a placard take a look at it and see if it say input voltage 110 - 240v. If so it should work. If it has a switch make sure it is set to 110v before plugging it in in the US.

The only other differences are the power frequency, which is 60hz in the States and 50hz elsewhere. If you have a plugin clock it may run fast due to this. Also you will need a new power cable or plug adapter as the US outlets will not accept an India plug.
