So I installed an SSD for the first time a couple days ago. Cloned the data from my hdd using samsungs data migration tool. Physically swapped the two drives and have been using the SSD since.

After about 48 hours of flawless performance, I got some white and grey lines tearing across both of my monitors horizontally. In fear I force shut down my pc. The poor girl can't boot back up now.

The pc is getting power, fans and LEDs are operational. But the keyboard, mouse, monitors, etc. are recieving nothing. So I can't see if it is completing the boot process and I can't attempt to log in or go into bios.

I already swapped the SSD with my old hdd but unfortunately I get the same results regardless of which drive is connected. Thoughts?

I am currently running windows 8.1

It could just be a coincidence that your failure came soon after you switched drives. The sort of failure you describe doesn't sound like it is related to a disk failure. From your description, it sounds like your GPU may have failed. A poor PSU could cause similar problems as well.

Hello... remain calm and re-connect/plug in, all your hardware back in to your MB... typically something get bumped when you have your hands in your computer... there are alot of small connections to your GPU/Ram etc... use rubbing alcohol to clean those items.

I don't suppose there is an easy way to test that? I'd prefer to know for sure before I spring for a brand new power supply or a graphics card. Unfortunately I don't have a spare of either lying around to try out.

So my computer is slightly operational. I plugged the HDMI cable that was previously going into my GPU directly into the motherboard. I also have a white DVI cable going from my second monitor into my GPU. Both are working now? I'm not exactly sure what this means, maybe just the HDMI output on my GPU is busted?

Everything seems fine on both screens when I was really only expecting the one plugged into my mobo to be operational.

I just took out my GPU and checked everything before reinstalling. Sadly it has had no effect and I'm running into the same issue. However my PC seems to be operating off of my integrated graphics just fine, so at least I have a PC again!

Just ordered a new GPU, hopefully that will solve the problem. Thank you all for your assistance, I'm sure in 24 hours I'll be back posting "So the new GPU didn't solve the problem..."
