So my brother 's laptop completely froze when he was joining a laptop game, and by completely I mean COMPLETELY, he can't even move mouse. however If I shut it down using power button only once, would it affect?

Solution
Personally I would only press the off button if nothing works. Nothing really happens if this happens rarely. I am not sure what happens if you do this regularly as I don't do it.

Let me know if this still happens after the shutdown
no, it is generally a myth that shutting your computer off the wrong way is bad for it (hard shutdown). the only concern is data loss if it were doing an update or you didnt save your word document for another example. otherwise nothing to worry about.

I would disagree with N3rd to a certain point. It will not hard your main components but it does affect ram and hdd. When you sut down your computer it allows your ram to empty safely, and to clear itself out (Simular to hdd) A hard shutdown doesnt give them the chance, and it ends up dumping. doing it occasionally should be a problems, but after a while it will start degrading performance.

When it crashes or such, it can be the only way to fix the problem, but if you're just powering off, I would suggest just doing the manual "Shut down". I wouldnt suggest dong it as a regular way of turning the laptop off.
Thats why when you start it up is says "Windows did not shut down correctly" and asks you how you would like to start up.
