Windows Media Center Guide Listings not updating

I am on a Windows 8 computer. For several years Windows Media Center has been working without any problems. Today, when I went to look at the TV Lisings, a message popped up saying "Guide Listings will be out of date in fewer than 3 days. Download to get the latest Guide Listings". So I click on the Download button, and a few seconds later I get the message "Guide Listings were downloaded successfully." But, for each TV channel listed, it says "No Data available".

I have exited Windows Media Center, rebooted the computer, but still no TV listings, which means I can't record TV shows (other than waiting for the show to start and manually recording)

On my Windows 7 computer, I also got the message about downloading the latest guide listings, which I did, and it was successful. That tells me it is not a problem with my internet connection or firewall.

Has anyone run into this problem?

mj ... I have run into the same exact issue. I've looked for solutions but unsuccessful so far. I don't want to perform and uninstall as I don't want to go through all that and find it wasn't the proper solution. The issue could be from how the updates are originated. My problem started on the same exact date July 22nd. I kept receivimg the message when I clicked on the guide that the ""Guide Listings will be out of date in fewer than 3 days. " . It attempted to update but never downloaded. Hope there is a simple solution or it just may start working without intervention again. It may be a bug in Windows 8/8.1

I have done quite a bit of research on various forums, and although several solutions were suggested, none of them worked for me. Thinking that maybe Windows Media Center got corrupted, I restored my operating system from a disk image I created (using Acronis True Image) from around June 30, and manually updated the guide listings successfully. Then later that evening, Windows did an update and rebooted the computer and the guide listings were missing again. So that tells me it is probably an issue with the updates.

As far as my Windows 7 computer, I thought that Windows Media Center guide listings were updating successfully, but now that I checked again, there are only program listing s for some of the channels, and only through Aug 3. I think I read some where that Microsoft recently changed service providers for the TV guide listings from Zap2it to some other provider, and when Media Center attempts to connect to the server, it is still trying to connect to the Zap2it server unsuccessfully. So this looks like an issue that Microsoft will have to correct with an update to Media Center.

Maybe updating to Windows 10 will fix the issue, but I am not ready to make the switch just yet as it has only been out for a couple of days, and I am not looking forward to reinstalling all of my programs and tweaking all of the settings to my liking.

Success-finally! I ran across a website (blog post) by Googling the following: "Workaround for no television guide available in Windows Media Center after July 20th 2015" Credit to Cameron Fuller, the author of the blog. The issue in a nutshell is that Microsoft switched EPG providers from Zap2it to Rovi, but not all zip codes have been "programmed in" yet. I receive my local channels over the air, not through cable or satellite. The solution was to try different zip codes in your area. For me, in Houston, TX, zip code 77054 was the winner, even though my zip code is 77071.

There are other links and suggestions in the blog post, in case the simple solution didn't work.

I would not upgrade to Windows 10 if you are worried about your Guide updating. Windows 10 does NOT have Windows Media Center and so it has NO Guide issues because it has no Guide.
