Yes, you still need new motherboard for Haswell (1150 socket) CPU. If you don't plan to overclock, you can get cheaper(locked, no overclockability) CPU, such as i5 4460/i5 4590 and cheaper h97 chipset motherboard - great value options for gaming. If you are planning on streaming/editing/gaming - Xeon e3 1231 v3 is a great option.

eg -
i5 4590 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116991&cm_re=i5_4590-_-19-116-991-_-Product
Xeon e3 1231 (basically i7 4770 without integrated graphics) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117316&cm_re=xeon_1231-_-19-117-316-_-Product
h97 motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157511&cm_re=h97_asrock_pro-_-13-157-511-_-Product
550w PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013&cm_re=xfx_550-_-17-207-013-_-Product

No, the processor is meant for an LGA1150 socket, but your motherboard has the older LGA1155. There are still a few processors on the market for that socket, but you can get a much bigger bang for your buck buying used. If you want a compatible and unlocked i7 (you want the Devil's Canyon so I assume you want to overclock) I would suggest the i7-2600K, or the i7-3770K if you're able to find one.

So there's no way I can keep my old mobo, I've never bought / replaced any PC parts and starting with the MOBO I feel would be too scary, is there no 1155 CPU's that are good on the market?

It will do the job, but it's more expensive than equal newer 4th generation CPU. i5 3570k (unlocked CPU), but your motherboard does not support overclocking, there is no point in getting K (uncloked version) of CPU.
For gaming, I'd get i5 4590 + h97 motherboard.
