What makes ram good and what should I look for in memory

Yes, the more common phraseology is simply DRAM, the DRAM is synchronized to the systems data bus, and yes look for the the highest freq or data rate (also often confused, in CPU-Z for instance (the memory tab) it will show the true frequency the DRAM is running at, lets say 1400, you then take that times 2 to get the advertised data rate or true freq (1400) x 2 = effective Data Rate (2800) as DDR = DOUBLE data rate, with the lowest timing

Rule of thumb for memory, the higher the speed in Mhz the higher the latency/or timing values are.
Most latency values for the speed, and type of memory you buy will be about the same.
Slightly more expensive ram of a lower latency value at the same speed will perform in some cases slightly better, but you will only see in real physical terms about a 3 to 4% increase.It`s down to the quality of the DDR 4 memory chips.

The more you over clock memory the higher the timing and latency value have to be, take the timings to high and it has a negative effect, against the clock speed of the ram its self because you are increasing the time it takes to fetch and receive data due to the higher latency and clock timings.

Look for highest mhz and lowest CL number CL14 is faster than CL15 and above it's like 2800mhz is faster than 2666mhz but you won't see any performance increase in games for a difference this little more like if you get 32gb instead of 16 or like ddr4 instead of ddr3 and if you seriously overclock your ram and hey I am thinking of the color choice of those rams blue with that mobo? Why dont this one with 32gb instead http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=20-148-865 about the same price but more ram for the money! Sure it is 2400mhz but still you wont see a difference in gaming on that part but though having 32gb instead of 16 : D

I highly recommend you to go with a color that fits your mobo especially the x99 deluxe like black and silver or black/silver but blue? Haha maybe if your graphics card or/and cables are blue haha otherwise stick to the same colors to match it looks the nicest that way :D

Is DRAM and SDRAM the same thing? and thanks for the info, so I should go for the highest hz with the lowest timings?

I was going for a white and blue build but you're right maybe that would look better. Also I should be going for the highest MHz with the lowest timing and latency? do you know any sort of white and blue ram sticks that would match the build? lol.

So I should be trying to get the lowest latency numbers I can get? and memory that's clocked at 2800 isn't really any different from memory clocked at say 2666? or at least the differences are so little it doesn't matter, right?

Also, my CPU says this-

Memory Types Supported
DDR4-2133
DDR4-1333
DDR4-1600

Does that mean the maximum speed for this cpu is 2133MHz? or does that mean that past 2133 there's no difference no matter what speed it is. Also, does the memory just cap at 2133 then? I've heard that downclocking memory from a higher speed to the highest speed your cpu supports gives a small performance boost.

Okay I think I understand now, thanks.

Oh, and one more thing. My CPU says it only supports up to 2133MHz memory speed.

Memory Types Supported

DDR4-1333
DDR4-1600

Does that mean that ram of a higher speed won't be compatible with this CPU or does that just mean that the memory will clock at a maximum of 2133 no matter the speed. I've also heard that if you take memory of a higher speed than your CPU supports (2800) and downclock it to your CPU's maximum supported speed (2133) it'll have a small performance boost.

But is it safe to have higher ram speeds than recommended? also can I even benefit from it?
