So, here's the problem
5 years ago i built my first custom pc:

-Cooler Master HAF X case
-MSI P67A-GD53 mobo
-HIS HD 6870 IceQ X TurboX gpu
-Corsair HX850w psu
-8GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333MHz ram

and, last but not least:

-Intel i5-2500k cpu
-Thermaltake FrioOCK Air Cooler

Since i had built the pc, laziness got the better of me and i decided to use the OC Genie function of my board that gave me 4GHz stable.
Years have passed, and i wanted to learn to oc my cpu manually. Unfortunately i made the decision to update my bios without looking at the description of it, limiting my oc capabiliuties because of the bios being designed for Ivy Bridge cpus.
That said, after trying to flash my bios, i got a bad flash, and my mobo won't post, even though it shows the codes that appear before the splash screen (sorry but i don't really know what those mean)
Since buying a new bios chip would cost me €20, i thought about getting a new oc oriented MoBo/CPU, maybe an FX-8350 / 8370.
Is it worth it? Or would i be better of repairing my board and overclocking my cpu to 4.5GHz? Or maybe even wait for Skylake! Or change to a LGA 1150!
Yeah, i'm pretty confused

TL;DR
I need help to decide if i should substitute my i5-2500k or keep it and wait until it becomes obsolete, since my mobo needs a new rom chip.

Solution
The 2500k has performance similar to or better than the latest i5s once overclocked, and even at stock clocks it isn't far behind. Not much has changed since Sandy Bridge. I agree with Bossy, AMD has nothing worth buying at this moment. Skylake is right around the corner and rumors have been made that it will have >10% IPC gain. I would wait and see if the performance gain will be worth the platform upgrade. Otherwise the 2500k should last you a few more years.

Assuming this computer is used for general purpose/gaming since that is type of system most posted here, the 2500k will game better than the FX 8350 in most cases due to vastly superior single core performance.

If you choose to buy a new BIOS chip for your board, realize that...

If you choose to buy a new BIOS chip for your board, realize that there is no guarantee you will be able to go up to 4.5Ghz stable. It all depends on your luck with the silicon lottery.
