Hey, I have had a lot of problems with my internet being too slow lately. Unfortunately, I am stuck on wireless, and am a floor up from the router. Whenever I try and play a game i get many periods where i freeze. The router and wireless card I have are these:

I'm wondering if getting a better wireless card (or router, but the wireless card seems rather cheap) could help my speeds. Please include any suggestions that you may have.

Nah the overkill one is just for if you expect to get crazy fast internet any time soon, or have unlimited budget.

By the way, that cheaper one on Bestbuy is the same exact model as the more expensive one, just from a different seller.

If powerline is an option, I'd recommend it over wifi for sure. It gives wired speeds (assuming your house isn't ancient) anywhere there's an outlet. Something like this http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-PA4010KIT-Powerline-Adapter-Starter/dp/B00AWRUICG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437618595&sr=8-1&keywords=powerline+adapter

If wifi is required, then one of these https://pcpartpicker.com/parts/compare/asus-wireless-network-card-pceac68%2Ctp-link-wireless-network-card-tlwdn4800%2Ctp-link-wireless-network-card-tlwn951n/ will most likely help. A better router might also help if you need stronger wifi. That one's not terrible, but there are better alternatives.

What is your current advertised internet speed? Might help to know.

My advertised speed with charter spectrum is 60 Mbps. I do have outlets available right next to the current router and the computer, but I'd heart that powerline was slower than wifi from someone. If that's not the case, then this might be a good option for me. Would I get the full speed through the powerline? Btw, my house is about 17 years old.

Edit: an online speed test told me that I am getting 33 Mbps download speeds

Powerline is not slower than wifi. In a properly wired house you will get speeds just like if you ran a long ethernet cable. I have used it, and it works great in this house (about 8-10 years old). I wouldn't think a 17 year old house would have bad wiring, but I'm no electrician. Just don't expect it to work in a 100 year old house.

I would suggest a powerline adapter with 500mbps speeds (or higher). The newer models can send signal better than the older ones. One from Amazon with good reviews, gigabyte ports, and 500mbps+ speed would be best. I would personally go with a trusted brand like Linksys, Netgear, TP-Link, etc.

If you get it and for whatever reason it won't work, you just return it and get a good PCI wifi adapter. It will most likely work though.

Here are two http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-PA6010KIT-Powerline-Adapter-Starter/dp/B00IBPLI48/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1437621386&sr=1-4&keywords=powerline+adapter&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_four_browse-bin%3A7899512011%7C7899513011 or the overkill http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-Powerline-Extra-Outlet-PLP1200-100PAS/dp/B00S6DBGIS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1437621502&sr=8-4&keywords=powerline+adapter

Okay, thanks for your help! I think I will get one of these (because I have gift cards to bestbuy):
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/tp-link-av600-gigabit-powerline-adapter-starter-kit-multi/1311706780.p?id=mp1311706780&skuId=1311706780

Unless you think that I'd need something like the overkill adapter you listed to be able to do online gaming, skype, and a couple of tabs on the internet?
