Wd Elements 2tb portable hard drive

Hello guys

Recently my friend bought the portable hard drive after few days use suddenly the hard drive became read only and unable to copy to anything on it tried formatting and disk check but its gives error hard drive is write protected. I did some research and tried cmd 'attributes disk clear readonly' it says success but still the drive stays write protected.
After typing 'attributes disk' it says
'Current disk read only status: yes
Read only: no'

Sorry to hear about the troubles your friend is having with the WD Elements drive. I'd recommend that you try it with a different computer, to see if the same thing happens. If you get the same result, I'd suggest that you download DLG (Data Lifeguard Diagnostics) and run both tests (Quick and Extended), to see what's the situation with the drive. I tried 4-5 pc's and laptops but everywhere it says the same write protected. I ran the quick and extended test it was successful but i cannot write zeros and tried many method to remove write protection but unable to. Any help and what may be the problem?

Hmm, you could try one last thing. Take a look at the 3rd method from this article: http://www.wikihow.com/Disable-Write-Protection. There's an option to remove write protection via registry edit. If this doesn't help either, I'd suggest that you contact our customer support to ask for further assistance and about RMA if possible: Service & Support
