WD 1TB shows the icon but cant access

Hello all,
My WD Elements suddenly stopped working. I can see the icon but can't get in. When i checked the control panel - computer management it shows the WD 1048 working properly. And moreover i have important staff inside my hard disk. Can anyone please help me fix it without loosing the data?

Sorry that you are facign some issues with your WD drive. :(

What do you mean by you can't get in? What happens when you click on it? Do you get some kind of error message?

Some simple troubleshooting steps you can perform are just attaching the drive with a different USB cable to a different USB port(even another system).
Also, you can test the drive with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=kmQ86d

After hours of trying everything i could find/read .. gave up but then decided to try security permissions ... changed/added me ... now i can acceess WD 1TB
