Hi

I have just built my first PC and still need to install OS. I was thinking of cloning the hard drive of my parents PC to save money on a new OS but I know there are some issues with major hardware changes (everything is different in my PC). I was wondering if I could get around this somehow by intalling drivers or something.

Thanks

Cloning's not the problem, I've done that with free software. it's what Windows will do afterwards when it detects hardware changes.

You will be asked to activate windows. (Assuming that's the OS). You will have to either put in a new key, or basically tell MS by phone activation before they ask for the group of numbers, and then you give them another group of numbers, that it is the only computer running that OS, which would make your parents' OS not activated.
