I have my rig approximately for 9 months and suddenly after no hardware changes while I was testing out a Linux distro on Virtualbox, for the first time ever in my life I experienced a Linux kernel panic(Linux BSOD), That distro was KaOs. I rebooted my PC afterwards.

It ran fine but when I was doing the same VBOX crashed my X but I had no panic I could use the PC. I restarted again and I just surfed the net, everything was fine except the strong smell coming from the PSU I just turned the power switch off.

After an hour and a half I decided to play some GTA V(on Windows) as a power test well not enough but I wanted to see the temps if they were normal or not. They were normal for everything and there was little smell which is normal I had it from the first time I built this PC.

The next day, assuming it was nothing because it had passed away I started my PC(Windows) played some games(not demanding just PCSX2 which is nothing for this machine) I also decided to see the temps while playing and they were still fine, but after some time again the PSU started smelling. It was a pretty strong smell and I could smell from my chair(I sit pretty close to my PC about 30-40 cm from the PSU) I had to wait for the antivirus to update itself(about 40 minutes since I have a newly installed antivirus and very slow internet). During that time I was still playing fine with no problems and the PSU had that smell after 3 hours I decided to give it another go the same thing but I immediately shuted it down.

The room I have my PC is very hot and can reach 35-40 C I have a fan for myself in there.
Recently I had some problems with the electricity in my home and I think my PS3 died from it, I heard some strange noises from it but I don't really care.

Should I replace my PSU or test if I have some kind of overvoltage coming in it?

PSU is the heart of the PC, it pumps the electricity towards your more expensive components. Better safe than sorry. What is your build and i can recommend a PSU for you.

It's actually a tier 3 PSU which is not recommended if you are overclocking or a heavy user. Anyways it is a mid range PSU selling for $90 at the moment.

Well, I have no money right now I will use my warranty until I earn some I googled a little bit and I found that it may not be the best PSU, but it can hold a system like mine. Can my system be covered by 550W psu to save a little money or would I need a 600W or more?
