Hey guys, im searching for a laptop for daily usage and multitasking, not for gaming. im choosing between a Core i5 4200U and A8 6410, the intel cpu being dual core and the amd being quad core.

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4200U-vs-AMD-A8-6410.

I know that Quad core cpu's are better for multitasking. so my other question would be why should i get the intel core i5 dual core?

Solution
Even though the amd has more cores, the intel is still better. However, if all you're gonna be doing is checking emails or doing other simple tasks, the A8 would be fine.

I've used an A8 6410 laptop (which isn't that much better than my A4 5000 laptop, and IIRC A8 6410 is Beema which only uses single channel memory), it can be terribly slow and look at the passmark (single core) benchmark on that cpuboss page, that says it all. I have an i3 4010U NUC and even at 1.7GHz, it's a magnificent system to use and the i5 4200U would be better (it's hyperthreaded anyways). Also the A8 6410's GPU isn't that much better than the Intel HD4400, both are weak so again, i5 4200U is my vote.

I recommend going with the i5. It's not a biased answer. I've legit had this apu before and I quickly got rid of it. It's a good cpu for multi-tasking and having multiple windows and videos playing at the same time, but gpu wise it's trash. I might have been unlucky or something but my intel celeron n2840 which is only a 2 core cpu and with only 2gb of ram could run a 7 year old game much, much better than the a8 4 cores and 4gb of ram. Also 1 thing you should consider with laptops is the battery life. I don't know for your case, but I would like to unplug my laptop and you know have minimum 6 hours of battery life. AMD's use a lot more power and at aroun 2 hours after unplugging and only going to chrome, I would always reach 50-ish % on the battery. Yet with my current hp stream 11, I would stay in the 70's. Hopefully, soon enough I will buy a new laptop with the same processor and has 6gb of ram.
