I was looking to start developing iOS apps and I need a mac to do so... My PC has an AMD CPU so can't use that. I found an old Lenovo laptop with a Intel Core Duo T2500 (32bit) with 2gb of DDR2 RAM. Laptop is the Lenovo ThinkPad T60. Yes I know that mac isn't supposed to run on PCs but based on what I've read hackintoshes are easy to make. And yes I know it's ancient but as long as it can run Yosemite (and hopefully El Capitan) I'll be happy since I only need it for xcode.

Since apple only uses select few CPUs in their macs I wasn't able to find an official "minimum requirements" besides like 2gb RAM and 10gb hard drive space. So is this laptop able to run Yosemite? My fear is the 32bit CPU...

Solution
It does not appear as though Yosemite will run on a 32-bit processor. Another and bigger issue is acquiring Yosemite legally should you find a laptop that will meet the requirements since the only way to obtain a legal copy, as far as I know, is through the App store.

"OS X now exclusively uses a 64-bit kernel, but it continues to run both 32-bit and 64-bit applications."

"For example, OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard dropped support for all PowerPC Macs. OS X 10.7 Lion dropped support for all Macs with 32-bit Intel processors, and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion dropped support for all Macs without 64-bit EFI firmware and 64-bit graphics drivers. However, this is the second OS X release in...
yea i think that might be on the low side. not sure. Have yet to be able to install Mac on anything but a Mac but haven't really given it a real try (I did get it to run on a AMD at on point but forgot how I did it. Hours of searching) but I have an actual mac book. It is a old one but it works lol

"According to the release notes for OS X 10.11 (El Capitan), the system requirements are the same as those were for OS X 10.10, which certainly makes it very easy. If you are currently running Yosemite, then you should have no issues updating your Mac to El Capitan."

Already had looked into obtaining a copy of OS X without torrenting it before posting this thread. A family member with a Macbook already told me I could download an image of Yosemite from their computer. Legal: yes, but it probably violates Apple's EULA or whatever... But I did some research after too and found out things like the trackpad, keyboard, and other peripherals wouldn't be compatible with OS X. Figured the laptop wouldn't work, but I've been wanting to upgrade my PC for a while now so if I get an Intel CPU I might try a dual boot alongside Windows. Thanks for the help.

Yea the whole Hackintosh community and about pirarcy is iffy. If you guy the OS, but build your own right it is totally legal for the most part.

You get a copy of the disk from who ever, and install it, and because of OSX's lack of a product key, it just works.

Installing it on a AMD hackintosh it total pirarcy. You need to have a custom made OSX disk and even then it is a pain in the butt to get it to work (I know. I tired just to see) but gave up and focused on fixing an old 2007 macbook i had laying around. Found out it was fine. Just the keyboard is toast so i have to turn it on by two pins on the inside and use a USB keyboard for now lol

Legal: No. Only a Mac owner is entitled to download Yosemite and then only for their personal use. Transferring that copy to a non-Mac owner would constitute piracy. It's just like copying any other copyright material without authorization.
