Hi ia m fairly new to the computer/hardware scene and currently am running a standard hard drive and wanted to upgrade by adding another SSD to my config. I was wondering if my motherboard (ASUS M5A97 R2.0) could support the SSD im looking to install (Transcend SSD370 256GB). The plugs I found on the motherboard said SATA 6gb/s and I am not sure what these means.. is it SATA 3? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Sata 3.0 has the ability if a SSD drive can provide speeds of Gbps of data transfer.

It is the fastest current interface used for Sata based drives, be mechanical, hybrid drives or Solid state drives SSD.
Sata 2.0 if your motherboard also has them, will also support your Sata 3.0 devices but run at a lower bandwidth or speed output.

The speed you will get from a SSD depends on it`s brand and quality and the type of Nand flash ram it contains.
The read and write speeds of for data on SSD drives can vary, so you are best when looking at an SSD drive of what the read and write speeds are.

Apart from that you good to go for a new SSD.

Hey there, InBeforeHD.

Just fyi, this is your motherboard (ASUS M5A97 R2.0) and not graphics card (aka GPU, video card, etc).
As for the SATA ports - yes, SATA III is the same as SATA 6Gb/s. This is just the SATA interface of the ports. If you want to learn more about it, you could check out this link - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA
And finally - the SSD. Yes you should have no issues with adding this SSD as one of your storage devices. It should be fully compatible with the motherboard.

edit: Looks like you've already been given an answer. :)

Hope that helps.
