I am planning to purchase "WD My Cloud EX2 Diskless Personal Cloud Storage - NAS (WDBVKW0000NCH-NESN)" but without the pre-installed hard disk.

My question is: i have "WD My Book 3TB External Hard Drive Storage USB 3.0 File Backup and Storage (WDBACW0030HBK-SESN)" already, can i take the hard drive from my WD My Book and put it in the WD My Cloud EX2? also, will i be able to access my existing data like this? or do i need to do something else?

Hey there, rkbroach.

Basically you should have no trouble using the drive from My Book either internally or with another enclosure (including NAS enclosures). However, you won't be able to access your existing data. My Book comes with a hardware encryption, which means that you won't be able to recover or access anything (even if you recover files they'd be encrypted and unusable) without My Book's enclosure. Furthermore this would void the warranty of the drive. I really would recommend against taking the drive out of its enclosure, but that's for you to decide. :)

Hope that helps.
