Hello, I would like to upgrade the CPU on my HP Pavilion dv6500, it currently has an AMD Turion 64 x2 @ 1.9 GHz running on Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. I was wondering if I could upgrade it, and if yes then what socket the processor would need to be and what processor I could use.

Thank You, AtomicGPU.

Unfortunately that PC is pretty old, the socket is "Socket S1" which is no longer in production. You may be able to find a replacement processor used but TBH it won't be much faster than what you have. Your money is better spent saving it for a new mobo/cpu/memory setup at a minimum.

You don't specify the exact model of DV6500, so with the latest BIOS, you "should" be able to upgrade to

Turion TL-66 (2.3 -GHz, 1-MB L2 cache - BEST OPTION £10-£20 on eBay!
Turion TL-60 (2.0 -GHz, 1-MB L2 cache)
Turion MK-38 (2.2 -Ghz, 512MB L2 cache)

It currently has a TL-58, and actually now that I look at it again, it say that it's a dv6636nr. I also recently updated to the latest BIOS by searching for the serial number, and downloading the latest BIOS from HP.

You can go as high as a TL-68 which is 2.4 ghz, but like I said won't be a huge jump. If you can find one for cheap, then go for it, just don't expect a miracle.

Yeah, I couldn't find a 68 that was reasonable priced, but I did find a 66 for $30.

I know this benchmark isn't perfect but:

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/midlow_range_cpus.html

Your current cpu is rated at 960, and the TL-66 is 1.094 . What that tells me is you'll see some speed increase, but whats your goals here, because TBH its not much difference, not even sure its worth $30 vs just saving that $30 towards something new.
