PC Freeze under moderate to heavy load.

Hello!

I'm having problems with my custom-built Pc: it freezes randomly whilst playing games or doing other CPU-intensive tasks (such as decompressing huge files...), and the only thing I can do is hard-resetting using the reset button. I have tried many things to attempt to fix it, but none have suceeded, so I've decided to ask here.

Here are my system specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home premium (64-bit)
CPU: AMD FX-9590
Vishera 32nm technology
RAM: 24.00 GB Dual-channel DDR3 @ 668MHz
Motherboard: ASUSTek computer inc. Saberthooth 990FX R2.0 9Socket 942)
Graphics: M2080D, 3072MB ATI AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (Sapphire/PCPartner)

I currently have 5 hard drives. My power supply is Corsair's RM1000, and my cooling system is Corsair's Hydro Series H80i. I am using THIS case.

Since this happens only in summers, I think It has to have something to do with temperature, so I have been monitoring it constantly for a few days: Everything seems to be normal, except the CPU package, as it seems to jump from less than 10 degrees, to 54+ in a matter of seconds.
Other temperatures appear to be stable.
Even under heavy GPU load, the graphics cards only seems to get at temperatures as high as 34-35 degrees.
I keep my cooling system fans always at the highest possible, and I can hear them speeding up significantly every time I open up a program, for then returning to base speed a few moments later. I have 2 intake fans, one on top of the case, and one on the front (cooling the Hard drives), and the only outtake fans are the ones of the cooling system.

Here's a picture of HWMonitor's output while idle: http://imgur.com/mBWkUpj

I have tried adding fans, changing my motherboard, cleaning the fans and the cooling system's radiator etc... but to no avail.

Any ideas I could get would be very helpful. If someone needs more information, ask away.

Thanks for you time.

I'm guessing you cooler is just to small. I have an H60i on my 77W TDP i5 3470(it does ok...). Your H80i is trying to cool a 220 TDP 9590, which are known to be very hot and power hungry.

Unless someone corrects me there seems to be something wrong with your temperature, there's no way a CPU is running at 12c, maybe if the ambient temp was minus 5c, try something else like coretemp to see if it's different.

Can you take a picture of HWmonitor under load? Again a GPU at 35c under load is pretty unheard of.

What country are you in? What are the summer temps like?

Is the cooler attached securely to the motherboard? Is the pump working?

I will try as soon as possible to provide a screen of HWMonitor under heavy load. I live in Italy, and summer are farely hot, with temperatures ranging from 30 degrees to 37-40. The cooler is attached to the motherboard securely, as much as i can tell. In corsair link, the program corsair uses to control its fans, the pump seems to be working at top speed. I simply do not know what the 12 degrees CPU is all about, I'll try using coretemp and post again, when I'm able.

I have taken more readings after opening up a heavy program with both HWMonitor and Coretemp open: http://imgur.com/stIPC98 The GPU got slightly hotter this time, but the CPU, at rest, still drops down to 12 degrees.

Something I maybe should have posted before is that one of my friends has the same setup as me, and experienced no crashes or freezes. The only thing that he has different is the cooling system, as he owns a Corsair's Hydro series H100i.

I could switch out my cooling for his, but I am worried that something else might be the problem here, or even that this constant restarts have damaged my components in some way.

So, you are suggesting to get a H100i like my friend's or something else? If I have to buy something, I want to get the right thing.

Try to remount the cooler again with some good paste like arctic mx/4 and see what that does first.Maybe add some fans to the case as well.I assume the one from the back is moved to the front, maybe add another at the top.
I don´t know if the H100 will fitt in that case, make sure it does before upgrading or get another case first.

Just saw this,

I have 2 intake fans, one on top of the case, and one on the front
mount that one in the front of the case to have a better airflow.

Again, since mine and my friend PC are identical, the H100i does fit in the case (you have to modify it a little bit, but it does). I have tried adding more fans, but it does not seem to help much. The only thing they manage to do is cool down the motherboard of about ~1 degree, and make a hellish sound. I will try ordering some arctic thermal paste, I needed some anyway.

I will try out what you are suggesting. I said "again" becuse i said that my friend has the same setup as me, and I meant exactly the same, case and all (except the cooling, of course).

Hello!
I ultimately decided to buy a corsair H110i as a cooler. After some pretty heavy modding, I've installed it, and it seems to be working fine; no more crashes nor freezes.

Thanks for your suggestions!
