Smallest $600-800 gaming build (a little bigger than an xbox/ps4)?

Hey guys,

A friend has asked me to build them a very small gaming pc for around $600-800, although they don't want to spend more money than they have to. They'd like for it to be roughly the same size as xbox one/ps4. They want to be able to play stuff like Gary's Mod, Minecraft, and Battlefield 3/4, all at around 60 fps. I'm not very well versed in small form factor pc's, so if I'm asking for a build that's not possible with these limitations I completely understand. They would also like to have a backlight keyboard capable of the stuff that you see on alienware keyboards (color customization, etc), and a mouse with the same kind of lighting stuff as well. This is going to be a living room pc that will probably be put in a tv stand so it needs to run cool as well. Thanks for reading.

Its possible, just gonna be hard to build it with such a tight space. This will work

The case is the size of an xbox one just a bit longer. The gtx 960 will easily outperform a console, couldn't really get a better gpu though because it would require a larger power supply, which would go over your budget.

My suggestion

My build compared to @vlxedits build.

-I picked better CPU (real quad core)
-I picked Motherboard that will 100% support the CPU, B85 chipset motherboard might not work with i3 4170 if it doesnt have the latest BIOS
-I picked 1 stick of RAM so your friend can later upgrade to 16gb of RAM if he wants to

Everything else is the same

Very cool build. But with all those high-end components in that small of a case, do you think my friend needs to worry about overheating?

No. There are fans already installed in the case and tons of air-pathways built in, should be fine. Heres a good mouse/keyboard combo btw, I forgot to include one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823129032&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

How much better? Because if it's noticeable, my friend would definitely consider it.

Yes uts noticeable, but dpends on a game some games dont need more than 2 cores which i3 has and some can use 4 cores which i5 has, so in some games there will be a big difference and more and more games will start to use 4 cores so in the future where will be even bigger difference

Your cpu and RAM makes sense for futureproofing, and your mobo looks cool, but now my friend is thinking about getting a laptop. Thanks for your help though I appreciate it!
