so i ordered a splitter cable for fan connector, so i can put more fans. but when the connectores came in, there were 1 ping missing, so instead of having 4 pins, the middle pin was missing : like [o|o|x|o] the x representing the missing. i was woundering if that would affect anything, since my fan is only using 2 of the 3 pins on it right now.

Sorry that was dumb on my part, ill explain below:

1st and 2nd pin: these are the + and - cables for the fan, so this is to power that fan on. Although it will make the fan run 100% speed all time.

3rd pin: this is used to monitor the fans speed.

4th pin: this is used to control the fans speed.

doesn't the 4th pin change fan speed? im just wondering. like having only 2 pins on any side just has the fan functioning, but having a 3rd pin gives you ability to change speed? but what does the 4th pin do than? just a question :)

3-pin: Voltage, Ground, RPM sensor
4-pin : Ground, Voltage, RPM sensor, Control

4-pin fans operate on PWM. This requires an additional pin so that DC pulses can be used to control the speed of the fan rather then straight voltage regulation, ie the control pin.

When you plug in a 3-pin fan it will just use voltage directly.
