I have a "My Passport" I've been using for quite long time and was so satisfied with everything including the speed of USB 2.0 (As non of my laptop/computers had USB 3.0).
Finally, about a month ago, I decided to order an PCI Express x1 USB 3.0 board. It got here about a week ago and so I installed it the very same day (and also the drivers that came with it).
I plugged the HDD in and tested the speed using some programs and got to 74MB per second read and write and got more satisfied with both my card, and the HDD. Now, a new problem has showed u; the HDD doesn't work on USB 2.0 anymore and I get a not recognized USB device ballon in Windows, and nothing happens in my mac. (it doesn't even show up in Disk Utility of mac and the partition management of Windows). I bought an 8GB USB 3.0 drive to test and see if that's the PCI that killed a component on the hdd but the usb worked on 3.0 and did so on 2.0 as well. I tried another computer from a friend and same problem with hdd (not working on USB 2.0 and did on onboard 3.0)

Hi there Danighooli,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your drive. :(
The drive works on USB 3.0 right? If this is the case, it may be a good idea to back up the data stored on the drive until you sort this out.
After that, you can try attaching the drive with a different USB cable, as a faulty USB cables could cause similar issues.

Is the drive under warranty? In case it is, and the drive is not recognized by USB 2.0 ports on several machines(and you've tried using a different cable), you can contact WD's Support and eventually RMA the drive.

I guess it will not hurt to test it with WD's DLG tool as well: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=SvJ45U

Let me know how this goes,

I already have backed up, tested different cables (even USB 2.0 cables), unfortunately I lost the receipt of the HDD and WD does not accept it for warranty
