I just purchased a GTX 980 from eBay (my first problem I'm sure) from a fairly reputable seller that said the card was barely used and worked.

I have:

Intel i5 3570k
Asrock z77 extreme 4
Corsair vengeance 16gb 1600mhz
Samsung Eco 256 gb ssd
WD 1tb caviar blue
Corsair 750 watt psu

I also have another 500gb HD that I just upgrade from.

A few months ago I had a 7970 that died. So I bought this gtx 980 and upgraded to an ssd in the meantime. Everything was working well until I tried to install the 980 today. I booted up my ssd, which had no prior graphics drivers installed, and went and installed the latest and great from Nvidia. I then shutdown and stuck the card in and restarted. I could not pull any signal from the card using hdmi, though the card lit up and the fans were spinning. I plugged the hdmi cable into the mobo and was able to see the desktop. I checked my hibernate settings were off and tried to access the bios, but when I hard rebooted I could not access anything, only a black screen. For some reason I could not access the bios under any circumstance with the ssd. With or without the graphics card.

When I put my old 500gb hard drive in, I could access the bios just fine. So, I went and installed the nvidia drivers after removing my old AMD drivers. Upon reboot, again no visual from the graphics card, however there was no video from plugging into the mobo either, which was different from my ssd.

I can't access the uefi settings from windows and I tried resetting the bios by removing the battery to no avail.

Thoughts please? I'm running out of ideas.

I have this exact problem. I can't access the BIOS using my graphics card. Only if I pull my graphics card and use the iGPU on the MOBO can I access the UEFI or BIOS. I have done everything: updated the BIOS, updated all drivers on my PC, restored the graphics card, switched PCI-e slots, pulled the CMOS to reset the BIOS, designated the PCI-e as the primary graphic device in the BIOS, turned off the fast start-up option. I know it use to work because when I built the PC as it sits right now I accessed the BIOS many times while connected with the graphics card.

Have you had any luck with this? Please please please respond. I'm also running out of ideas, I've done everything except throw the good book at it. I'm about the restore the OS and format the SSD in hopes to fix it but my gut tells me it wont because it's something with the BIOS which the OS and SSD have nothing to do with.

It seems the driver for the graphics card isn't loaded until after windows is loaded. How is the order in which these drivers are loaded effected or changed?
