First of all do not start a fanboy war here. I am asking for advise and opinion.

NOTE: Do not give me stupid answers like go for an i5 or i7 I am on tight budget and I am sure these games will work on these cpus just on lower settings or fps which I do not mind.

The games I wish to play properly since my current rig will stutter:
Borderlands 2
Crysis 3
Metro 2033 and Last Light redux

can someone give me the benchmark results of these two cpu's running on these games please?

what is the advantage of the i3 from the X4 aside from "fast single core performance" is that really needed today? I mean more and more games are utilizing more and more cores and I am hesitant on getting the i3 since it is not a true quadcore... can it even run Farcry 4?

the X4 860K on the other hand is a quadcore though has somewhat a lackluster single core performance and is budget oriented.

What are the best GPU for these cpu's and how far can it go? can the 860k and i3 even handle a gtx 960 or 970 without bottle-necking?

What I like about the AMD is the price... for the price of this cpu I can get the mobo as well compared to the i3. But I think there will be a problem for mobo BIOS updates since the 860k is a new cpu thanks.

Yep, lga 1151/skylake is set to come out in q4 this year and replace lga 1150.

crap... looks like my prediction months ago are correct. Though major price drops are being implemented now I immediately perceived that these things are going out of circulation already... junk. Looks like I am going to hold off then... hope there will be an i3 skylake

I bought 860k couple of weeks ago with Gigabyte F2A88XM-D3H and yes I had problems with BIOS. I bought a used X2 320 for 10 euro just to flash new bios. People say that Asus a68hm-plus is compatiable out of the box.

lol wouldn't call LGA1150 a dead socket, people today still uses i5 2500 and i7 2600's today, Intel's CPU's lasts a long time ever since the introduction Core i series, heck even some people still uses Core2Quad chips. And getting an i3 now, will allow you to use it for a year or two and find an i5 or i7 for cheap down the road and still get comfortable performance, unless things dramatically changes (which hardly has since 2005).

Its a dead socket because it already being replaced soon, but i agree, these haswells will be used for years and still be a viable chip.
