Oh come on now. You have memory, and then you have virtual memory. If something is not being actively used, but is using memory, Windows will push that program out to the swapfile and use it for something else that is being used.

For over 20 years now, Windows has managed memory for us. It is NEVER a "OMG, Program XX used up all my memory and wont release it" situation. Our computers are smarter than that.

Memory is there to be used. Use it. Don't complain because some awesome piece of software uses some of it. That is what your memory is there for.

Perhaps, you would rather remove your hard drive, put a see-through panel on the side of your computer, and add some lighting to the inside of your case so you could sit there and stare...
The vast majority of people have at least 8GB of memory in their systems now, and people are still worried about a web browser using some of it?

I just went and added up the memory being used by every entry in Task Manager that had "Google" or "Chrome" in the name. 1.38GB. But right now, I have 7 tabs open, some with massive lists of info. Sometimes, I have 15 tabs open. Depends on how deep I am researching something. So I am not going to complain. Its using memory. I bought my memory to be used. Good deal.

Updating my drivers right now, crossing my fingers. If this doesn't work then i'll roll back.

if chrome is not releasing resources other programs need they will crash or cause a shutdown cause they cant run -- if I was to use up 80% of something and you needed 30% you cant run --

its a easy to find and see known issues with chrome if all else you do fails to resolve

Because without a hard drive, those memory sticks would be 100% available for something you can no longer run, because you have no hard drive to even load anything into your memory.

But it would look "purdy!"

Solution
First check if you have a virus as chrome was working before by running a virus scan.
Second check the cpu, ram and gpu usage while opening chrome. This will tell us if there are any background processes or startup programs that are using up the resources while you have the browser.
