Hello
i bought this card (asus gtx 960 strix oc) last week,it's new
but it's temp is going over 50c in idle
i checked ASUS GPU Tweak and took these shots:

as you might notice i was "forced" to increase the fans speed to 50% to lower the temp
but i don't want to keep them like this because i'm afraid they will die too soon..

a picture for my case from inside :

PS: i'm noob a little in these matters so please simplify your answers

thanks

Idle temperatures are meaningless. Set the fans to Auto.

Install MSI Kombustor.
Turn it on and see the temperatures now. As long as the temperatures are under 80C ~ 85C you are safe.

MSI Kombustor stress tests your GPU, as long as your GPU on full load is under 80C ~ 85 C you are good to go.

Also please do some cable management, it is disgusting, you are destroying all the airflow.

Also it is most likely using the technology that disables fan until the temperatures hit 60C or something along those lines, this is why idle temperatures are meaningless and anything under 80C is very safe.

50c is normal for such Gpu.Dont worry and idle temp doesnt matter.Dont oncrease ur fan speed and if u want u can overclock it using Msi afterburner and u can overclock ur Cpu using Throttlestop

ok thanks ,but about the cable management can you give me some advice
i did my best to manage the cables and i've (obviously) failed

May take some time but get it right the first time and you will have better airflow, resulting in better performance.
You want as many cables behind the motherboard as possible.

^ if the front intake fan is in the centre then imo that mass of cables don't matter - they look untidy but they're not restricting any airflow in the bottom of the case.

If you don't have a front intake fan then buy one.

I don't like the zero fan profiles on some of the maxwell cards ,I've forced a 30% fan profile on mine (it only ramps the rear fan up) to keep idle temps in the 30's.

Decent fans have a lifetime of around 20000 hours

my case have only one "place ?" for a fan and it's already taken..which means i have only 3 fans in my pc
the CPU fan,the PSU fan which is facing the bottom (there is a space between the case and the floor)
and that only case fan which takes the hot air outside the case (i think it's called Exhaust fan ?)

^ lol - so the fan Ia there but disconnected ??

That should drop CPU & GPU temps a bit as fresh air in is good.

The fan looks like its at the bottom??
Try & flatten your mass of cables a little more mate - there should be slot to cable tie them to the bottom of the case.

Or you can clip the case front off & move the fan up to the middle position if it's not too much hassle??

I am running this card at around 45 with silent mode on, fans are not rotating, ambient temperature is at 30 (pretty hot in here)
at maximum stress, it reached 68 degrees. i think you can start worying when it reaches 75 degrees, anything less is normal with strix cards.
