OEM vs Retail

I am using windows 7 at the moment and i am going to upgrade to windows 8 and was wondering if i should do oem or retail. The oem software would save me money but iv heard its for new computers. I am going to wipe my computer completely and I am the builder of this computer. I say that because iv heard oem is for people who had built their computers themselves.

You can save some money by going OEM. It's what most of us do. But Win 10 will be out in few days. If you have Win7 now, you can get a free upgrade for the first year it's out.

so oem will work just fine? How do i go about installing it? Can i use the down loader off of Microsoft? i actually never realized because i had a friend help me install windows which ended up being counterfeit so now i am going to upgrade to 8 before 10

Oh. If you have a bootlegged copy of Win7, then I can't help you with your Win7 issues. I would suggest waiting a few more days and getting Win 10. if you MUST have a new OS now, get Win 8.1 OEM. Then you can legally sign up for Win 10 free upgrade.
