As the title states, i'm currently thinking about plugin in the gtx 650 as a dedicated physx card for my gtx 660. I'm curious if the speed of the x1 slot is high enough. I can't just plug it in, because if i would go through with this i would first need to upgrade my PSU, which is currently an already meager 420w version.

Any thoughts?

I've tried that same thing in an x4 slot, but never an x1 slot. As little bandwidth as I would expect PhysX to need, It should work... providing your x1 slot is open ended so the card will actually fit. Btw, what board do you have that has a PCIe x1 slot? I'd suggest trying it with the current PSU just to see if it is recognized in Nvidia's CP as suitable for a dedicated PhysX card.

My MB is an Asrock 960gm/u3s3 fx, which has 1 pci, 1 pcie 2.0 x16 and 1 pcie 2.0 x1 slot. the x16 is obviously taken by the 660, so i'm left with the x1. It's not open-ended, i'm ordering a x1 to x16 extensioncable, so the x16 650 will fit. So, when the cable has arrived i'll just try it before i'll buy a new psu.
