Help on my first managed switch

I recently picked up some old 3com 4400 SE switches my school was getting rid of to learn on. I'm trying to access them through a network but I am having zero luck. I get a connection refused error when I type in the IP. What am I doing wrong?

I don't know about that switch per se, but when my group at work had a managed switch, there was a dedicated admin port that was the only one which let you modify the connection.

You need to start by going through the serial port. You may need to see if there is a factory reset process for them. They may have a password that will prevent you from doing anything without a factory reset.

You need a manual:

then you need to reset it back to default settings, then sign into it and program it.
