I recently bought an arctic III aftermarket gpu cooler. During what was the most painful installations of any computer component one of the mounting screws that secured the gpu core to the heatsink broke. I ended up just finishing the installation and shoving the card back into my computer with the 3 remaining screws holding it in place. My temps are now way cooler but I'm still wondering if I should be worried, In the long run could this effect my card badly? Ever since I installed it the temps have not changed much.

Solution
Yes, and no.

Three screws may be enough, and then again they may not be.

I would not recommend leaving it like that. Most screws are universal, so just head out to a hardware store with the broken one and find a replacement. It's probably something common like a 1.5 x 2 cross head. Shouldn't be more than $0.30 for one.

The worst thing that happens is the GPU gets too hot and shuts down. There should be safety features in place to keep it from damaging the GPU, but keep an eye on your temperatures to prevent this from happening. If they ever start to spike, it's causing a problem.
