Hey Dears,
I am Ahmed Salah, and I’m studying architecture engineering and actually facing so troubles in choosing my new pc .. so I needed a help of some experienced people, I mean you

Firstly to make everything clear,
I will use my pc mostly for the following: 3Ds Max – Rhinoceros – Revit – AudoCAD - Rendering – Photoshop).

So I want you while answering my next questions to put in your mind how the choice will affect the my work , time of rendering and the difference in quality between the scenes rendered by the different pcs

My Budget is between (1400 – 1600$)
ps: a little increase in the price is okay for me if it really will worth it.

Here is my questions:

1. What do you think about that one?
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($309.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI Z97-GD65 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($124.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($138.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($109.97 @ SuperBiiz)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($94.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB ACX 2.0 Video Card ($329.99 @ NCIX US)
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Rosewill Capstone 750W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($16.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.98 @ OutletPC)
Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($39.34 @ Amazon)
Keyboard: SteelSeries APEX Wired Gaming Keyboard ($77.45 @ NCIX US)
Total: $1542.65
2. Comparing the above with the next laptops ?
Dell M6800: http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/precision-m6800-workstation/pd?oc=cap6800w7p201&model_id=precision-m6800-workstation&dgc=BA&cid=287047&lid=5494548&acd=123092118502786723&ven3=878802937232133762
ASUS G750JS 17.3: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KMWI7OM?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B00KMWI7OM&linkCode=xm2&tag=viglink20850-20#productDetails

Actually I need portability too for the college, so if the above laptops (or any better choice you would recommend for me) can give me the same results like the desktop build you saw above I will go for laptop
3. can I use my current laptop for light modelling? Using 3dmax, revit, rhino without rendering (just for drawing and editing my work while being in college or travelling)?
my current laptop >>> are you ready :D :D (you will find it funny :’D )
Cpu: Intel i3 2.13GHz – Ram: 8GB

Please give me your help ..

Skip the CPU cooler, the i7 is overkill even without the overclock. The i7 comes with a stock cooler that will perform just fine, even at 100% load. Just don't overclock until you get a better cooler.

I changed the brand of SSD to Samsung. The 850 EVO is faster than the MX100.

I changed the amount of storage and brand of HDD to a Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB. You probably might not even use the whole 1TB in 2 years. If you run out of room, you can always add some more hard drives.

The 980 TI is basically a Titan that's $350 cheaper. There's basically no difference besides the price.

The 200R is on sale right now and it's a decent case.

2. You will get better performance out of a desktop rather than a laptop.

3. You can use your laptop for light modeling if it has a decent integrated graphics card (HD 4000+)
